Right by the Golden Gate Bridge, we got engaged in San Francisco. It was a magical, thoughtful moment that marked the beginning of our journey together.
It is romantic and thoughtful to propose on vacation.
Nothing is more romantic than getting away to explore a new location together. This makes it even more surprising to get down on one knee, as she (or he), will not expect you to do so while you are running from museum to beach to best ice cream shop in town.
There’s a good chance that if you are in love, you don’t care where you propose. Your future spouse, provided they say yes, will be so happy to spend the rest their lives with you. There are many things you need to know if your plan is to propose on vacation.
Here are some tips to help you propose on vacation and make sure that everything goes according to plan!
Make sure to pack the ring properly
You should make sure that your bag is properly packed in your carry-on bag if you are flying to your destination. You can either place it in a longer container, such as one for necklaces, within one of the false books or inside another box like one that contains your shaving kit.
Make sure you have removed all liquids and gels. Don’t bring anything that could be considered suspicious.
You should make sure that the ring is stored in an inner zipper compartment so that it doesn’t fall out while you are taking out your headphones or laptop for the flight. It is best to not put it in your checked luggage.
Be ready for customs
Be aware of customs procedures at international airports if you are traveling internationally. When I was in Morocco, customs stopped me randomly and took all my belongings for inspection. They even opened the ziplock bags that I had packed everything in.
Although I was not proposing there, it almost happened to me when my dad proposed in Mexico. It is a good idea to ask for a private inspection while your future fiancee waits outside.
You don’t want a customs agent holding your engagement ring up in front of you and asking questions in another language.
Safety is always a priority. It is important to strike the right balance between keeping it safe and hiding it. While the safe is the best option, it’s not the best if you are the only one using it.
You are more likely to lose a diamond ring if you carry it around in your pocket all day.
It is a good idea to make the proposal the first thing you do. This will allow you to enjoy your entire trip as fiances.
Make sure you have a backup plan
It was my dream to propose on this hill, with the Golden Gate Bridge as a backdrop. It turned out that it was way too foggy on the day, thanks to Karl the Fog. My perfect backdrop turned into a lot of misty nothing.
I needed to think quickly and find another location. You should be aware that the weather can be a problem if you plan to propose outdoors. Make sure to check the forecast before your big day and, if necessary, to make a backup plan.
Ask your hotel for assistance
People love making people’s dreams come to life. Once you arrive at the hotel, let someone know about your plans so they can help make your stay special.
Many hotels offer concierge services that are specifically tailored for honeymoon and engagement packages. Make sure you tell your hotel that you are proposing to get flowers and chocolates delivered to your room when you return.
Think about it
If your partner loves to dress up and take photos, you should consider hiring a local photographer to capture some shots. We recommend that you do this regardless of what because these pictures will be cherished forever. Find a way to make your partner dress up without drawing suspicion.
Tell her, for example, that you would like to take her to a fancy restaurant and then make sure to do it right before or after she is least expecting it. You could also tell her you’re planning a photo shoot for you two.
If your girlfriend loves the beach, you can propose underwater on a diving excursion. If you are feeling adventurous, you can propose right on the edge a bridge just before you go bungee jumping. Just make sure you don’t drop it!
Remember to be there for each other and remember this moment forever.
