These are the Top Destinations to Visit in May

Summer vacation is overrated! You can visit the most beautiful destinations in the world from May! There are many flight and accommodation discounts, plus you’ll enjoy beautiful weather without the crowds of June and July.

Are you ready to fly after a long winter? These are the top places to see in May.

Don’t forget to check out my top places to visit in June!

Lipari, Sicily

Sicily

Italy is a place I adore and would consider it one of the most beautiful countries in the world. May is the best time to visit Italy because it is warm. However, the rest of Europe is not quite ready for summer.

Yacht Week Italy took me to Sicily and I fell in love. It’s one of the most beautiful spots on the Mediterranean and its peak is May.

You can enjoy long days on the beach with temperatures already high enough.

Tip: Train travel is a great way to stretch your Euros. Although it may not be the most efficient way to travel around Sicily, Sicilian trains allow you to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Bimini Islands

Bahamas

May is the best month to visit the Bahamas if you want a quiet getaway with great prices. You won’t miss the winter crowds, and you can get in after all the spring breakers have left.

It’s warm enough to sit on the beach all day, but not too hot to go out and explore.

Tip: You don’t need to travel to the islands in flip-flops and cutoffs. For chic, tropical style inspiration, make sure to check out my guide on packing for the Bahamas.

Botswana

Botswana is a great place to visit in May, as it is right before the high season begins and just before the dry season. Because there isn’t much rain, it’s a great time to go on safaris because large numbers of wildlife congregate around the waterholes.

Chobe is home to one of Africa’s greatest concentrations of elephants. It also happens to be one of Botswana’s best national parks. If you are on a tight budget, May is the best month to go on safari. Prices have not increased for the high season in June.

Egypt

My first trip to Egypt was in April/May, and it was a great time to travel. There are many ways to save money on flights, tours, accommodation, and the weather is still cool.

Egypt is a great destination for history enthusiasts. The Red Sea has some of the most beautiful diving in the world. Did I mention desert safaris? Egypt is a country that offers so much to everyone!

Top Of The Rock

New York City

May is a great month to visit New York City. It offers the perfect combination of great weather, low crowds, and events.

Take a stroll on the streets and enjoy the green spaces of the city, such as Central Park. For a lazy Saturday afternoon, you can pack a picnic to join the Sheep’s Meadow locals.

Istanbul

Istanbul is a beautiful city and one of my favourite solo travel destinations. It is the perfect mix of Asian and European culture.

Istanbul has so many things to offer, from beautiful mosques to unique bazaar shopping. Istanbul is an unstoppable city unlike any other in Europe or Asia.

My last trip to Istanbul was fueled by Turkish coffee. I managed to get through Istanbul in one day, but I recommend at least three days.

Cape Verde

Cape Verde, also known as the Galapagos Islands in Africa, is a beautiful archipelago. There are many things to see, including desert landscapes and hot springs as well as beautiful beaches.

Cape Verde’s culture is an interesting mix of Portuguese and African influences. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world to enjoy the sun and learn more about another culture.

Plitvice National Parc

Croatia

Croatia was the first country I fell in love with. I moved there for a few months after I started my travel blog. You will experience beautiful warm weather in May after the rainy April.

Split and Dubrovnik can become crowded during high season. The shoulder month of May offers a balance between great weather, low prices, and small groups.

You must visit Croatia’s Plitvice National Park, Krka National Park, and taste the local wines in northern Istria.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a must-see on any trip to Europe. May is peak tulip season, which is a great time to take in the sights and colors.

Visit Keukenhof Gardens in early May for the famous Keukenhof Tulips. Amsterdam has so much to offer, from art and history to nightlife.

Keep in mind that you won’t have the warmest weather this far north. However, layers can make it more comfortable.

Madagascar

Madagascar is truly a magical destination. The unique landscape is matched by a unique culture that combines European, Asian, and African influences.

The habitat is home to many rare plants and animals that will charm nature lovers. This is the only place on the planet where you may see a lemur walking past you.

The dry season begins in May, so it’s a great time to explore the area. However, the landscape is still lush after the rains have stopped. Get ready to hike (and get hungry for the amazing food!) ).

Peru

Three months volunteering in Peru was my first step into the travel world. This country will always hold a special place within my heart, and May is the best month to visit it.

You can’t visit Peru without visiting Machu Picchu. May is the best month to see the Inca Trail, which runs through the Andes and to this famous site.
