March’s Top Destinations

March is a great month to hop on a plane. Depending on where your location is, the weather may be warming up or still getting the late winter chill.

There are many places to choose from, whether you want to relax in a resort on the coast or to explore beautiful flower fields.

The Galapagos

March is the best month for Galapagos because of the high water temperatures and clear waters. This is the perfect time to swim, dive, snorkel, paddle board, and so much more. This is also a great time to see the unique wildlife of the islands.

It’s hatching season in the tortoises, and mating season in male frigate birds. Get your cameras ready!

Avoid spring break weeks that run from the end March to the middle April if you are looking for a low-key vacation. If you have a family that wants to visit, it is advisable to book in advance for those weeks, as they are often very popular.


Norway is the place to be if you’re not tired of snow yet.

It is still possible to ski, snowshoe, or dog sledding in March. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t like the idea of snow. There are still many sunny days with longer days. This is also an excellent time to view the Northern Lights.

Bogota (Colombia)


Colombia is close to the Equator so the weather can be quite tropical with lots of rain. March is considered dry season, meaning that you’ll be greeted with sunshine, clear skies and a gentle breeze. These are ideal conditions for exploring.

March falls outside peak season, which means prices and crowds are likely to be lower in March.


It’s spring in Italy! The spring brings out the colors in places like Florence, Lake Como and Rome.

You may also encounter some rain, but you might also see some sun. Be prepared for unexpected temperatures, but don’t let this deter you. Italy has many museums, cathedrals, shops, and other places where you can enjoy the culture while remaining dry.


March is the start of spring in Japan, as it marks the end of winter. The cherry blossoms bloom at the end the month, and everyone makes their way out to enjoy the sight. Festivals and picnics are common celebrations. Hanami is an annual tradition.

Petra, Jordan


Because Jordan is a desert, it can get quite hot, quite quickly. It is not yet March and the heat has yet to reach Jordan, so it is one of the best times of year to visit. The crowds are small, the weather is mild and the olive and almond trees are still in bloom.

You can also spend the night in Wadi Rum or visit Petra.


Because of the beautiful weather and the Holi festival, March is one the most visited months in India.

Festival of Color, as defined by the Hindu calendar, is when you throw colorful powder and paint. This is an experience everyone should have at least once in his or her life. Don’t worry if you get dirty.

Sri Lanka

Look no further if you are looking for a tropical escape!

The month of March is very hot in Sri Lanka. There are occasional rainstorms to keep it from getting too hot. If you dream of relaxing on the beach for a week, the south coast is the place to go. There are beautiful beaches and grand resorts.


Last, but not least: what list of March destinations would be complete without Ireland? As it prepares for St. Patrick’s Day, the country turns green. For a full-blown celebration, head to Dublin and enjoy the bars and pubs. Don’t forget your green!
